After a serie of 'unlucky' published releases (between 1.4.0 and 1.4.6 with every release more and more and more heavier bugs introduced), it seems that the developer of OpenCart have published a quite stable version (1.4.7 from the 11. April 2010).
While this release still has some stupid bugs in it (read here), it introduced also some nice and most wanted features like:
- Invoice numbering
- List limits (for front- and backend)
- Displaying prices with and without taxes
2 of these new features are necessary to operate a webshop in the EU: invoice numbering & prices w/w.o. taxes.
But as always, they are implemented only the half way. Let us look at the feature 'prices w/w.o. taxes'.
The new release gives the website admin the possibility to display the prices at the frontend in both ways. But to realize that, he has to edit again some core files, otherwise the displaying of some text variables will not work: show either the text with tax only or only without tax. But the law in many countries of the EU states clearly that this must be made visible to the customer!
What is wrong?
Well, the language files are missing some new variables. And inside the scripts there is no switch to check what shall be displayed!
In the German Edition of OpenCart (see Downloads) these missing links are added. Simple for the store owner, just enable (or disable) the setting in the backend and the shop will show the correct texts.
We published today the latest release of the German Edition of OpenCart. This installation will install the latest release of OpenCart in German as well in English. During the installation process the language is German, but after finishing the installation the store owner can switch simply to English.
