Home Development OpenCart TinyMCE instead of CKEditor

TinyMCE instead of CKEditor

Labels: OpenCart

Many postings and questions about the replacement of the buggy editor CKEditor with the fully working TinyMCE are existing.

The 'main' question is; why should I replace this editor and use another one? The developer of OpenCart should know what he is doing.

Well, this is correct - except the fact, that if you operate OpenCart with several languages, the standard editor will not work as expected! What is wrong?

Basically is nothing wrong with the standard editor CKEditor. It is fast, it is easy to handle and it does his job.

But never try to operate your shop with several languages! Everything is okay if you use only 1 (one) language. All editor functions can be used. But if you want to have additional languages and you want to include an image in the second, third, etc. editor window - no chance!

This bug is well known, at OpenCart as well as CKEditor. And both are doing nothing.

So what can I do if I have several languages installed and want to embed an image in all editor instances?

You can only replace the CKEditor! For example with the TinyMCE which is well known (for example also used at the CMS Joomla), bugfree and easy to extend with own plugins.

For this purpose we have created 2 packages:

  • the module TinyMCE itself
  • core file replacement for all OpenCart users with version 1.4.9.3

The replacement is done within 4 minutes. Just download both packages, follow the readme inside and you done.

No hassle, no headaches, no editign of core files.

The basic package TinyMCE exists of all needed files for only the editor himself.

The additional package TinyMCE Replacment has already all replacements - proven by us and fully working right out of the box (categories, information, products, settings).

Note: OCIE from 1.3.0 onwards use only TinyMCE as standard.
