What do we understand under a 'modern browser'?

Internet technologies (and browsers too) are changing their background technology faster and faster. Main reason is to be able to display more and more informations in a 'standardized' way. And these 'standards' are the flaws. Long time ago there was a browser called 'Netscape' which does not exist anymore (cancelled 2008, read more about here).

While Netscape was the #1, Microsoft 'discovered' the web and published their Internet Explorer.

Which became later an integrated part of their system and was installed with every computer installation automatically. From these days we all have to live with these old - and incompatible - versions of the Microsoft Internet Explorer. Meant here mainly the versions 5.x and 6.x which are delivered with every installation of (for example) NT & 2000 which is used until these days in many companies.

Now, the problem with these old versions is, that they are using on the on side none standardized technologies (or to say it better what Microsoft tried to establish as standard and nobody else can either interpret or if only with many work arounds!).

Today users can use many diferent browser and the MS Internet Explorer is loosing his market share rapidly. Think about Mozillas FireFox, Googles Chrome and some more.

But the problem is still existing and all users are encouraged to update their outdated browsers to be able to see all contents a modern website wants to display.
